Ellen and Albrecht von Kessel live right in the middle of the Müritz National Park, in their "Zartwitz Cabin".
For decades, the cabin was deserted, until 1994, when Albrecht von Kessel met his wife Ellen, here. Since then,
they try to live on farming. While he mainly works as a shepherd, his wife takes care of the cafe and the cabin
shop. The Kessels offer lamb or veal sausages and meat as well as sheepskin products, honey, wood jewellery and
pottery. They also provide a guesthouse on their farm, pursuing the goal to provide both high-quality and near-natural
holidays. In the future, Albrecht von Kessel plans to offer a shepherd trail through the national park for his tourists.
All the farm animals graze on the national park's pasturage, the whole year through. It is an inherent part of the von
Kessels business to keep the fields around the national park's villages open. Thanks to Albrecht von Kessel and a part
of his sheep, this kind of landscape can be preserved. So, with only a minimal amount of work by men or machines, parts
of the park are maintained according to the concept of extensive farming.
