The new master of Penzlin
There is one person, who especially cares about the preservation of the landscape cultivated by the house of Maltzahn:
Sven Flechner, the mayor of Penzlin. It is his wish to maintain the cultural heritage of the Maltzahns and to revive
the history of this noble house. In order to make the landscape around Penzlin more attractive for tourists, Sven
Flechner plans to establish a foot and bike path, enabling the visitors to trail the history of the Maltzahns. The
path will guide the tourists along the monuments and attractions of Penzlin while introducing the visitors to the
unique beauty of the landscape of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. For this project, the mayor of Penzlin found his
inspiration in an old legend of the Maltzahns. According to this story, in the 18th century, baron Joseph of Maltzahn
and his son Ferdinand roamed the estate to show him the dimensions and significance of the land. Then, on a small hill,
which was the highest point of the surrounding land, the baron told his son; "Now look around, boy! One day, this will
all be yours!". Up till today, Siedichum, the German translation for "Look around", is the unconventional name of a village
nearby that hill.
