Father of the Black Iberian Pigs: Tomeu Torres
Each week, Tomeu Torres, the pig farmer, takes his animals to the market in Sineu. Ever since
he was a child, he worked with the pigs - a job he intends to keep doing for the rest of his
life. The Black Iberian Pigs that he breeds are his pride and joy, because they have already
won him many prices. In a completely traditional way, Tomeu Torres produces the popular Majorcan
speciality Sobrassada, a sausage made from the meat and fat of the Black Iberian Pig mixed with
a special pepper powder. He still uses figs from his own fig trees to fatten his pigs which
makes their meat especially delicious.
