II. Natural wealth
On the basis of Salvator´s work

Just how important the conservation of the species really is, has been pointed out clearly in Salvator´s works about the Balearic Islands. The archduke described in detail, which plants have been grown on the Island, which fruits they produced and how these were harvested and used. It becomes evident from his writings, that many of these plants no longer exist on the island, nowadays. Almost half of them have been lost. This loss is caused by exactly two factors: The economic boom and tourism. Nevertheless, it is crucial to preserve the genetic information of the last existing plants, because they are an inherent part of Majorcan culture and a foundation of its typical cuisine.
